Chinmayam is a show by Nimali Creations Pte Ltd. Chinmayam 2018 is our second production, their first being Chinmayam 2017. The company was started by a team of like minded individuals who share a common passion towards the arts and promoting it in different forms, to keep the beauty of our traditions and culture alive.
Chinmayam 2018 will be an evening of musical and cultural extravaganza with several celebrity artistes performing as well.
Gautham Vasudev Menon, the highly acclaimed and prominent film director, screenwriter and producer from the South Indian film industry, who has given us gems such as ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, ‘Minnale’, ‘Pachaikili Muthucharam’, ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Ennai Arindhaal’, will be attending the show and interacting with the Singapore audience. This is a rare opportunity for his fans to watch this multi talented artiste share his thoughts and opinions in front of them.
Another event of the evening is a mesmerising Hindustani Jugalbandhi performed by some of the best in their fields. On the tabla we have Ustad Fazal Qureshi, son of the world renowned Ustad Alla Rakha and the brother of the great tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain. On the flute we have Naveen Kumar who has played along with legends such as A.R Rehman. On the violin we have Lazar Sebastine who has performed on many stages across the world. Finally on the veena we have the young and talented Geethiyaa Varman, who has become a YouTube sensation with her angelic voice and looks.
Chinmayam 2018 will also be a platform to recognise the contributions that the people among us have made to the arts. We will have a short segment to appreciate their hardwork and dedication to promote the culture and art.
Finally a major segment of the evening will be a dance drama, entitled ‘Ramarasam’, a mythological drama that tells the story of Lord Rama and his inner battle to choose between his wife, his honour and duty. The story depicts how Lord Rama who was banished into the forest with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, led to Sita being abducted by Raavana and how Lord Rama and Lakshmana together with the help of Hanuman, manage to rescue Sita and return to their Kingdom. This dance drama is performed by 50 local artistes, most of them children and teenagers. The main purpose for this is to get them actively involved in the arts and culture through acting and drama so that they will develop an interest in the field of the arts and keep tradition alive. Most or theperformers here are repeat performers from last year’s maiden venture, ‘Vasudev’ which we staged at Chinmayam 2017. This is a positive thing for us to see the youngsters coming back again with interest despite the long practise schedules and commitments involved last year . It shows that their interest in being part of such cultural performances has been raised and they have started enjoying it.
The dance drama will be in English and Tamil so that it makes understanding easier for the children as well as reaches out to a wider audience, at the same time promotes the use of Tamil as a language.
The nett proceeds from our show last year was donated to Sree Narayana Mission Home. This year as well we would like to donate the nett proceeds from our show to a charity. This is something we would like to do continuously as a way of giving something back to society and it also is a way to inculcate similar values among our young participants so they learn to give back and care for society.
